As "Defender of the Faith" (the Orthodox Christian faith) His Majesty ruled his country (Ethiopia) according to Christ's teachings and he applied them to offer wise solutions to modern problems of inequality, war, greed, wastefulness of the earth's resources, and so on. He taught both by word and I-sample, according to his faith in Christ. For I-sample, after the defeat of the Italian invaders, he released the Italian prisoners of war and sent them home, with a statement to his people that in order for human beings to progress, wi must forgive our enemies and seek reconciliation. This is one of Christ's main teachings: to love our enemies and do good to those who persecute you. His Majesty had a deep overstanding of Christ's teachings and knew how to apply them to life and leadership. His Majesty's thinking was also very African, in that he taught the necessity for people to real-eyes that wi are all part of an inter-related community and that actions of one can affect many, so therefore our actions must be positive. Therefore, wi follow his advice in regard to human relationships, both on the local and global level, working toward his goals of Collective Security among all peoples and International Morality among nations. All of these I-ciples are grounded on Christ's message of love.
